5 out of 5 stars Great!   September 3, 2010

This was easy to set up and found lots of channels. Works well, I like how it remembers what channel you were last viewing and that it also doubles up as a digital clock when not in use. You can view the programme guide for any channel whilst still being able to watch the current channel, so you can channel surf without missing what you are watching. It also has the red button feature as you would expect. Haven't tried recording anything, I brought this for our spare tv that does have a scart socket. Looks like it has lots of features which I probably will never use like favourites lists, parental controls etc. It's great that it works on older tvs, but ours are all scart endowed!

2 out of 5 stars Success in 2 out of 3 TVs   July 9, 2010

My area having 'gone digital' and with three old, analogue, TVs (only one with SCART sockets), I bought this set top box for its ability to drive non-SCART TVs. I chose it on the basis of the excellent reviews it had received and so was disappointed with what I found. It wouldn't drive the small TV I had bought it for - the picture it produced was very, very, 'snowy'. I checked long and hard (different cables, different aerials etc), but there was nothing I could do to make it work; seemed like it produced too low a signal even in the set-up phase. The Labgear box worked OK on the other two TVs. In the end I moved my old set-top box from my newest TV (with SCART) to the old TV, and found that the old set-top box drove the old TV OK. I now use the Labgear to drive my newest TV using the SCART connectors - had I known I was going to use the new purchase with SCART connectors I wouldn't have chosen the Labgear model. Picture is OK, but I am not wildly enthusiastic about the EPG display or with finding obscure channels. Also the remote has to be pointed very directly at the box. Delivery speed was excellent. One of the batteries for the remote was significantly dented (presumably during manufacture), but the voltage is unaffected.
