Product Description
The TDT9500 freeview set top and digital recorder is both a set top box and
recorder. It is very compact as there is no hard drive but the Rimax TDT9500
features both USB memory card reader. Plug in a USB thumb drive (recommended)
or external hard drive (FAT32 with a maximum size of 100GB) and use the USB
device to record on to. You can then remove USB device at any time to transfer
recordings on to your PC. Having a USB port or memory card reader also means
you can take files such as AVI or MPEG movies, JPEG photos or even MP3 music
and transfer them to your USB device.... then watch them on your TV via the
Rimax TDT9500. The TDT9500 supports JPEG photos, AVI, MP3 music and MP4. What
this means is that you can have your music, films and recorded programmes all
stored on USB devices and they can be interchangeable on your TDT9500 .... this
turns your TV in to your home entertainment hub.
Having the ability to plug in a new USB storage device also means you will
never run out of room as can happen with a built in hard drive... no need to
start deleting your favourite programmes or music... just plug in a new USB
device!!
As far as connections go the Rimax TDT9500 also aims high... with 2 Scart sockets
on the rear you can connect the TDT9500 to your TV and also to either a DVD
recorder or other device. Other connections on the rear are USB port, RF coaxial
aerial socket and loop through RF coaxial socket.
The TDT9500 features 4 buttons on the side of the unit for Channel + / -, Menu
and Enter... main control of the unit is via the included remote control.

| Customer Reviews: Rimax TDT9500 January 27, 2010 M. Paterson (Scotland) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
The despatch of the device was fantastic, I ordered it on the 10th and it arrived on the 13th. I had only requested 3-5 days delivery.
Upon receipt the PVR was securecly packaged and clearly a brand new item. however this is apparently a Spanish product (or manufactured for Spain). A 2 pin adaptor was received with the item to convert to a UK 3pin plug, no real problem. The instruction manual is VERY simple but should allow most people to get started.
Out of the box and I switched the device on (wrongly). The TDT9500 switched itself on so I was actually turning it off before turning it on correctly "D'Oh". Initial out of box set up requires " ----" to be displayed. The counter progresses to 0001, 0002 etc representing a clock / counter. To allow you to configure the device you needed the PIN number, this is not apparent in the manual, however 0000 allowed me to proceed. Channels were searched for and stored automatically.
After the initial set up delay, the TDT9500 is simple and easy to use. as already described you should estimate 1Gb per hour approx. The output MPG file was played both on my Sumvision Cyclone Media Player and on my XP laptop with Media Player.
Issues:
- Its not possible to alter quality settings (approx 1Gb per hour)
- The EPG when viewing actually changes the channels as you browse, this can be distracting and in poor signal areas the device freezes when a low signal channel is selected.
- Have not found all Freeview channels. Other devices locate Film 4 but not the TDT99500. Have tried various cables and locations so looking to upgrade the antenna next.
- The TDT9500 literature suggests that MP4 files are playable on the device, Ive not been able to play my files. Great with AVI and MPG so far.
- SCART connection only (or Composite with SCART adaptor)
Conclusion:
Reasonably priced, simple, no buzzing hard drive, highly recommended.
Nice little product December 5, 2009 John Crossland 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a good little product. it records in mpeg format which can be stored on or viewed on any PC.
Unfortunatly My "HP pocket drive" or drives of that type wont register but pen sticks are cheap as chips these days and as it records @ a ratio of around 1hour to every 1GB its easy to work out how much memory you need.
