This is one of the worst products I have ever owned. It is slow, counter-intuitive, and frequently malfunctions.

Gorgeous
I'm very surprised by the many poor ratings for this machine so felt compelled to write my own review. I've had mine for about 18 months and have experienced no problems with it (although I'll admit that it is slow to start). I usually record on HDD and if there's something I really want to watch again, then burn onto DVD (having first removed any adverts using the very useful 'partial delete' facility). I'm not a technical wizard but I haven't read the instruction manual, just played around with the remote control and found it easy to get the recorder to do everything that I want it to.

Exactly after 1 year - i.e.just fter the guarantee had run out, it became faulty. If we put a disk in, then replace it, it won't recognise the 2nd one for a while. It also refuses to read some blank dvds we wanted to record on to, having previously accepted others from the same batch. Another problem is its failure to read a dvd we have recorded on to, apparently successfully, so we now cannot mark it complete. What we don't know is if we put it in for repair will we lose the programmes stored on the hard drive but not yet put on to disk?

I took a chance and bought this item after reading all the negative reviews because I was finding it hard to find a similar product that actually had good reviews. I am not disappointed, it does everything that it is supposed to. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is that the manual is very comprehensive & complicated. If you want to be able to use it to do everything it can then it will take you some time to learn. If you want to play dvd's and record tv then it is easy to use. The picture quality through the hdmi link is second to none. Good product at a good price.

Had this a while now (2 months). No problems, works a treat. Everything I need in a dvd, HD, freeview player. Reliable, quiet machine and lots of features. Perhaps the other reviews didnt read the manual or havent had a similar device before. Lots of features means you have to learn to properly use it dummies! Invest a few hours to learn how to use it and it will pay you back with an excellently priced, functional and complete unit. I have discarded a separate DVD, freeview and cinema sound for this, and am not disappointed. less cables, less remotes and 1 neat tidy unit. if you decide upon this you will have a great machine. Dont pre-judge or look for fault as others seem to have....
