FAULTY AGAIN June 29, 2010 A. KING (Hampshire) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The first error I had with this was about a year ago with the unit switching itself on in the middle of the night displaying 'Guide', after which it would freeze and had to be completely unplugged and re booted. This was corrected with some software sent in the post from Panasonic.
It has now taken to, again, turning itself on at night, this time displaying the time and opening the disc draw and shutting down.
When the unit is subseqently turned on the drawer shuts, it displays no disc and opens again, add-infinitum. Put a disc in the tray and you get another read error message and it spits it out again.
And I can't even use it to watch free view now.
I will certainly never buy Panasonic again.
More reliable than the DMR-EZ27B model May 29, 2010 carobbo2007 Compared with others who have given this product 5 stars I have only given this a 3 star rating. This is largely due to my experience with product having had it for 17 months. It was a great product but has started to have problems reading some of my DVD RAM discs (that was about 3 months ago but I haven't had chance to take it in to the shop yet). This problem is only occurring on a few of the discs so far, which is how it normally starts. Prior to this I had the DMR-EZ27B, which suffered the same fate after only 11 months in a much more serious way (luckily was under extended guarantee). I was unfortunate prior to this to have the DMR-ES20D, which suffered the same fate too after 18 months (not guaranteed either). My dad also had the DMR-ES20D, which suffered the same fate.
You may ask, why do I keep using the Panasonic model. The answers are simple, when it works it is brilliant and responsive, plays DVD RAM and I know the features really well (got the TV too). I am praying that they do improve, as I have been told it may have something to do with Firmware but nobody could fix the problem.
So if you get these products, I would always look at getting a good value extended warranty, as I think you will need it. Still love Panasonic though.
Very slow startup and poor power saving April 7, 2010 Mr. Kristian Benning (Swindon, Wilts) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Overall this is a good DVD recorder and freeview box,but....
if you configure it to use super powersaving it uses 5 watts (still 5 times more than my Sony DVD player) and takes 40 seconds for the unit to respond to anything. Regular power saving (15 watts - not really power saving) means the unit starts up in 20 seconds.
Another problem is if you need to record several programs one after another (Emmerdale, Corrie & Eastenders say) and the 1st one has already started, then as soon as you have set it to record the 1st program then it starts to record that and won't let you set the others up.
Also deleting programs off DVDs is very slow (15 seconds) and if you then try to eject the disk it still needs to write stuff back to the disk - I'm missing my old VHS recorder already - I could rewind a 3 hour tape quicker than deleting a couple of programs.
On a plus point, so far it will read any type of DVD I put in and all the other DVD players in the house can read anything it writes
Panasonic the best February 23, 2010 Mrs. E. M. Bryant This is the second Panasonic DVD recorder I have bought and I am very pleased with them both. Easy to use which is good and good results.
Good product poor reliability December 17, 2009 Ms. Alison W. Utting (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My Panasonic DMR ez28 is 13 months old and has shown a U61 error and will now not read any discs at all and continually says "no read". Have spoken to the retailer and to panasonic who both say it is out of warranty and they are not prepared to do anything about it. Some research on the internet indicates that this is a common problem with Panasonics in general and they often fail in this way. My mobile phone has a better warranty than this machine and whilst it works really well I am extremely disappointed with it's reliability and could not recommend anyone else to buy it.
