 great bit of kit - after the (v easy to do) software update August 29, 2010

After ordering this with some trepidation, after reading very mixed reviews, I was very pleased to find that once the software had automatically updated itself, this is a very good bit of kit. We've had no problems - the sound quality is good and there have been no glitches, the picture is excellent and the EPG is pretty good, compared to others I've used. The record facility is very easy to use. This has totally changed the way we watch television, for the better.
I can't quite say we've no complaints - it does take a bit longer than we'd like when you switch it on, but that really isn't a big issue.

This box is very simple to set up. The picture is excellent. However,the sound glitches every minute or so and the program guide is extremely tedious. The very helpful Sagemcom technical support line (08450900316) tell me that, at least, the sound fault will be fixed in the new software (Vx2.1.3) that will be broadcast and available on their website in the next month. If this does not fix it, I will return the box to Amazon.

I was expecting so much and its frankly disappointing. The sound quality is poor - so poor I have returned it in the hope that its just a faulty unit rather than a funadamental design fault. The remote operation is also questionable - we are all so used to zooming up and down the scheduler and this one just doesnt cope and rather lathergically struggles to keep up with your intentions! The sound is downright poor. Firstly there is a most annoying "buzz" which is transmitted to the TV but then, even worse, every 30 or 40 seconds the sound breaks for what is probably only a millisecond but taken with the "buzz" it certainly is annoying. I'm getting a replacement as Im hopeful its just my unit. On the positive side, the EPG seems great and the series link appears to be fool proof. There is the facility to organise programmes into folders which saves you having to look down massive lists of recordings which should be really practical. Such a shame about the sound. Lets hope the replacement is better.

Not coming soon.
Two emails from Amazon saying delivery has been delayed and then a request for a review. At least Amazon do not debit my card on receipt of an order, but I may have some doubts about Sagemcom. What's the problem with this product?

Quick to set-up - plug in mains, arial and hdmi. 3 quick clicks and the box was up and running. HD channels and recording anything I might be missing. The football looks great, the channel guide gives me all the info I need, recording programmes is a one-button task.
