Fantastic, Fantastic September 10, 2010 TVGeek I have had this for a month and have both the freeview and freesat setup on it, the picture quality on both high def and standard upscaled are amazing, the colours are very rich and contrast is amazing, I am very happy with this.
I have also used a Hard Drive (HD) and memory stick with this to play existing content, as long as you have the correct format (which is fair enough)they play without issue and are also upscaled making them very good, if you have a large HD it does take a long time to discover all the files but memory sticks are vear instant so I would be tempted put the one you want to watch on a memory stick, you can also ff and rewind at different speeds, it reminded me of an old VCR but a very welcome feature which saves you sitting through bits you dont want to see, you can also play MP3 files back so it is an all round media player.
There is also an SD card slot to play read memory cards straight from your digital camera, the TV plays some built in background music which is not the best but the pictures displayed are very good, no need to have a digital picture frame any longer, you can view your pictures one by one or run a slideshow
Blue ray playback is just breathtaking, what else is there to say.
I have yet to try the online capabilities but suspect it will be equally as good.
I could not be happier with this TV and shows just how good plasma technology is.
Great product and price £200 cheaper than currys/pc world! September 10, 2010 Richard S. Jarratt (Essex, UK) A really good picture and easy to set up. No probs with the sound either.
The only gripe is the limited intanet access
through the device- buck up panasonic! You are limited
by panasonic to a few sites only. I'm hoping a software
update to fix this will be releaesed soon.
Those with older gear may also find the provision
of only 2 scart sockets limiting.
I connected my wii using the side video and audio
sockets rather than the scarts -used for DVD and video recorder. So can access
the Internet through this - eg google which you can't
via the limited panasonic offering.
Brilliant piece of technology - looking forward to exploring all the features! September 3, 2010 Nobbly Rob (Oxfordshire) I've had one of these Panasonic Plasmas for about 3 weeks.
Set-up out of the box was pretty straight forward and the quality of the components to fix it to the supplied stand were reassuringly robust and well made.
Auto tuning worked a treat and by following the on screen set up, I was all set to go in no time at all, much to my wife's total amazement.
Any day now, the satellite dish will be installed and I'll get all the benefits of HD - If it's anything like the Blue-ray experience, it should be amazing.
Over time, I'm sure I will be able to get the right screen settings to maximise the performance - there's plenty of scope for tuning it to personal preference. Without Freeview HD in my area yet, I will be relying on the Freesat tuner for my daily dose of detail. That said, the Standard Definition Freeview picture is still pretty good considering the size of the screen.
One thing I have noticed is that the built-in speakers can only be described as "weedy". Connecting the audio to an external system dramatically improves the quality; especially of music and action films. Fortunately, the TV comes with a plethora of options for connections - more than I could possibly use at the same time.
I'm still getting to know all the features and can see that I will be using some more that others. Viera Cast, for example is a nice toy at present, but needs some decent content (e.g. i-player or itv.com etc) to really be more than just a 5 minute wonder.
Incidentally, I wouldn't waste any money on the branded wi-fi dongle for ethernet connection. Instead I connected the ethernet port to a Home Plug Ethernet over Power plug and it just connected first time to my router - marvellously simple and no concerns about weak signal or slow data rates.
Plug in an SD card from your Digital camera and the slideshow begins. All pictures naturally rotate to the correct orientation (how do they do that?) but the accompanying music seems rather unnecessary.
If I have a (very small) niggle, it is why can't I have a picture-in picture when browsing the EPG? My old Sony CRT had that facility years ago and I suppose I just expected it to be there.
There's so much more to say in detail, but in summary, I am really blown away by what you get for your money with this TV. Panasonic lead the field here and I fully expect to be delighted by the technical quality (if not the content) of my viewing for years to come.
You won't be disappointed.
Pretty good except.... August 23, 2010 PaulMc 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a fine TV and I'm very happy using it. A couple of points:
-the price came down £50 the week after I bought it!
-Vieracast is pretty useless and not worth paying extra for. Panasonic need to add more mainstream web sites to make it worthwhile.
-My TV has an assembly fault at the top left of the screen with a piece of soft spacing material sticking out a couple of millimeters. It is just outside the viewing part of the screen and doesn't affect anything. I can't be bothered with the hassle of sending it back but it is annoying that Panasonic's quality control is not 100%.
Beyond the steam age. August 23, 2010 essdee 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having finally pursuaded myself that my 1990s Sony had to go, my market research kept bring me back to this plasma TV with all the bells and whistles you could want.
Once the World Cup was over, online prices softened and a £50 additional promotion from Amazon got me home. No regrets- great picture which is a quantum leap forward from the old box. Only downside is that the dongle required for internet access is quite an expensive extra and so I haven't used that facility yet. How long can my self denial last!
