5 out of 5 stars Excellent TV - Highly Recommended   September 8, 2010
Ray Reviewer (West Sussex, UK)
Having spent a great deal of time researching LCD TVs I have finally opted for this model and I have to say I am delighted with it. The set up was very straightforward and the menus used so far seem intuative and easy to understand. I haven't got Sky HD yet (arrives next week) but the SD picture on digital and through our old Sky box is amazingly good, even the analogue picture is good. The sound quality is fine although I have yet to listen to anything that really pushes it capabilities.

In short this looks great, its easy to set up and the picture quality is great even without HD!

First of all, i'd like to clear up a few negatives that have been left by other reviewers, this TV is amazing, It will play .MP4 video files, i've just done it. what you need to do is register the device as a DivX device by getting the registration code from the TV's menu and registering the device (TV) on the DivX website, all instructions are on the TV's menu. User manual & instructions can be downloaded from the SONY website as a PDF file and either viewed on your PC or printed as a document. As for the sound quality, its far superior to our previous Bravia flat TV and that one improved with use, this new TV has a rich deep sound and on the default settings is a little basey if i'm honest, but this can be adjusted in the options. The XMB interface for the menu's etc is very intuitive and easy to use especially if you have ever used a PS3. The picture is absolutely astounding, especially when viewing HD content such as Bluray. it really has to be seen to be believed. We also have a PS3 and a SONY A/V reciever which was also purchased from Amazon and the are all connected using HDMI cables and it all works together beautifully via Bravia Sync. The TV's remote will alter the sound on the reciever and when the TV is switched to standby, the reciever also shuts down. If the TV is already on and i turn the reciever on, the TV's sound is automatically turned off in favour of the sound from the TV going through the reciever therefore getting surround sound from the TV. All in all, i whole heartedly recommend this TV, you won't be disappointed. Sony reciever used STR-DA2400ESBSony STR-DA2400ESB 7.1 Channel AV Receiver in Black

2 out of 5 stars Nice HD, average SD and poor sound   July 23, 2010

Had this telly delivered today and first impressions were OK, HD picture was excellent from SKY HD box. Wasn't so impressed with the SD quality, but I could have lived with it.

However, compared the the Toshiba 32" LCD it was replacing, the sound quality was truly terrible - we don't have a surround sound system so have to rely on the TV speakers, and they were, to be honest, very poor. I knew we had an issue when my wife commented that she was 'not overly impressed' with the sound - that says it all I'm afraid!

I also struggled a bit with the XMB interface, which is not that intuitive if you aren't used to Sony products. Also, the TV is quite restricted in the format of video that it can play from the DNLA network - I believe "to play files that are received from a network device, they need to conform to one of the following file formats: Video:- AVCHD, HDV, MPEG2-PS (which in some cases may not be able to be played)" - kinda limits all my MP4s!

Oh, by the way, there is no printed manual, just a pretty poor electronic version stored on the TV!

Very disappointed, as I was really looking forward to this piece of kit.

I am a person who likes quality and this TV is, it gives excellent picture quality, easy setup and no end of inputs, all that I could ever use anyway.

Excellent picture, particularly on HD channels. We use with Sky+ HD box.

Even though its a 37" screen compared with our old 28", being a flat screen it is less obtrusive, and fits well into the corner of our lounge. Would definitely recommend it, particularly at the Amazon/Sony offer price we bought at.
